Creative Sewing Camp
check back in the spring for 2012 information
Sewing is undergoing an upsurge in popularity among young people. They recognize that sewing is a creative way to express themselves. Shows like "Project Runway" have perked their interest in learning to sew. Unfortunately, not many people sew and few parents have the knowledge to teach their children. These camps are a lot of fun and open the door to life-long sewing for both boys and girls.
My first experience teaching was in the 1970's when I was in high
school. I held classes in my home and taught the neighborhood children
sewing to finance a school trip to Quebec. Since then, I have developed a passion for passing along the love of creative sewing.
I've been
teaching the Creative Sewing Camp since 2001.
I offer sewing classes as week long summer camps. The camps runs Monday through Friday from 1-4. Sewing machines are provided. Students will be able to make whatever they like. Possibilities include clothing, purses, hats, tote bags, or dolls. In the camp, we focus on learning how to use a sewing machine, read and apply the information on the back of a pattern, follow the steps outlined in the instructions, and figure out what it all means. Students will also learn basic sewing skills including: pinning, cutting, marking, measuring, pressing, and possibly hand stitching depending on the chosen pattern.
Camps are limited to 6 students. Ages 8 and above.

Aren't these guys too cute? They were made by students in a doll making camp.

Each student designed her own pattern to create these wonderful dolls.
